September 9: Health Care COVID-19 Update at Lakewood

Dear Lakewood Family,

The Lakewood leadership team learned Thursday, September 9, 2021, that two healthcare team members tested positive for COVID-19. These team members are self-quarantining at home pending completion of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) return-to-work criteria.

VDH is aware of these cases, and the Lakewood team is following all guidance and recommendations for the health and well-being of our residents and team members. Contact tracing is underway. Anyone affected will be contacted personally, and appropriate steps will be taken.

This case was found through testing due to the county positivity rate. One team member works on the third floor, third hallway of the health services building. The other does not have direct contact with Lakewood residents. As a reminder, visitation on the second-floor second hallway/middle hallway (rooms 217-232) of the health services building is suspended, as well as communal dining, activities and beauty salon appointments will not take place. The third floor of healthcare is also closed to visitation and following the same restrictions as the second floor.

In accordance with VDH guidance, outbreak testing is continuing for the third floor and starting for the second floor; if all test results are negative for at least two consecutive weeks, communal dining and visitation can resume.

Our community’s priority continues to be the safety and well-being of residents and team members. Please remember that being fully vaccinated does not 100% protect an individual from contracting COVID or one of the variants. Both CDC and VDH have noted, “No vaccine works 100% of the time. Some people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will get infected. Infections in fully vaccinated people are sometimes called vaccine breakthrough cases. In most cases, these people do not have any symptoms or have only mild symptoms. Their infections might also be shorter in duration.” https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-faq/vaccination/ & https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/effectiveness.html
