September 3: COVID-19 Update

Dear Lakewood Family,

The Lakewood leadership team learned Friday, September 3, 2021, that a healthcare team member tested positive for COVID-19. The team member is self-quarantining at home pending completion of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) return-to-work criteria.

VDH is aware of this case, and the Lakewood team is following all guidance and recommendations for the health and well-being of our residents and team members. Contact tracing is underway. Anyone affected will be contacted personally, and appropriate steps will be taken.

This team member worked on third-floor, and all residents on the third-floor of the health services building have been tested via both PCR and rapid testing. Results are returning to us, and we anticipate this to continue through the weekend. Visitation on the third-floor of the health services building is suspended, as well as communal dining, activities and beauty salon appointments will not take place.

Testing will resume until Wednesday, September 15, in accordance with VDH guidance. If all test results are negative at that time and have been negative for at least two consecutive weeks, communal dining and visitation can resume.

Our community’s priority continues to be the safety and well-being of residents and team members. Please remember that being fully vaccinated does not 100% protect an individual from contracting COVID or one of the variants. Both CDC and VDH have noted, “No vaccine works 100% of the time. Some people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will get infected. Infections in fully vaccinated people are sometimes called vaccine breakthrough cases. In most cases, these people do not have any symptoms or have only mild symptoms.
