January 4: COVID-19 Update

On January 3, the Lakewood leadership team learned that a healthcare resident and an assisted living resident have tested positive for COVID-19. Both residents live in the Health Services Building. On January 4, the leadership team also learned that an independent living resident also tested positive for COVID-19. These residents are self-quarantining per guidance from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).

Contact tracing has been completed. Those who were identified as having close contact with either of the positive residents will be contacted directly and appropriate steps will be taken. VDH has been notified of the positive cases. The Lakewood team continues to follow all VDH recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus.

The leadership team also learned that two independent living team members, one assisted living team member, one dining team member and one healthcare team member have tested positive for COVID-19. These team members are self-quarantining at home pending completion of VDH return-to-work criteria. Those identified as having close contact with any of these positive cases will be contacted directly. There will be no changes to the visitation for assisted living or healthcare residents.

The leadership team’s priority continues to be the safety and well-being of residents and team members. While we understand the information regarding rising cases within the community may be troubling, please know the team is doing everything we can to keep residents and team members safe and healthy at this time.

Being fully vaccinated does not 100% protect an individual from contracting COVID or one of the variants. We urge residents, team members and their loved ones to remain vigilant at this time. Those who are not feeling well should not visit.
