January 3, 2021 COVID-19 Update

On January 2, a team member in Lakewood’s Health Care Center became symptomatic with COVID-19 symptoms. Lakewood became aware of this test result after completing the routine surveillance testing this week. Currently, this team member is quarantining while recovering at home.

Contact tracing is ongoing, and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has been notified of the recent positive tests. Any residents or team members who are believed to have been in close contact with this staff member will be notified directly. Lakewood’s team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread.

All healthcare team members will continue to be tested twice a week in accordance with the area’s positivity rate, per guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Additionally, all healthcare residents will be tested on Tuesday, January 5, for COVID-19 per VDH protocols. Lakewood management will report results if any additional positive cases are identified.

For infection control and staffing reasons all virtual visits in the Health Care Center will be temporarily suspended. Management apologizes for needing to take this step and will work to reimplement virtual visits as soon as it’s feasible.

Lakewood’s leadership team urges residents to continue wearing masks, keeping a social distance of at least six feet and practicing proper hand hygiene. Management thanks the extended Lakewood family’s patience, flexibility and understanding during this unprecedented time. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.
