December 29: COVID-19 Update

The Lakewood leadership team learned on December 28 that an independent living resident in the Chesdin building has tested positive for COVID-19. The resident is self-quarantining at home per the guidance from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and CDC.

Anyone who is identified as having close contact with the positive resident will be contacted directly. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has been notified of the positive cases. The Lakewood team continues to follow all VDH recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus.

The leadership team’s priority continues to be the safety and well-being of residents and team members. Please remember that being fully vaccinated does not 100% protect an individual from contracting COVID or one of the variants.

Both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and VDH have noted, “No vaccine works 100% of the time. Some people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will get infected. Infections in fully vaccinated people are sometimes called vaccine breakthrough cases. In most cases, these people do not have any symptoms or have only mild symptoms. Their infections might also be shorter in duration.”

As a reminder, those who are not feeling well should not visit friends, other residents and family during this time.
