The Lakewood team is thrilled to announce 21 newly hired Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) through a partnership with Henrico Career and Technical Education (CTE). On Tuesday, May 23rd, the Lakewood team attended Letter-of-Intent Signing Day with Henrico CTE students and their families.

The students completed the 18-week Nurse Aide program through the Advanced Career Education Center (ACE) at Hermitage High School, making them eligible to take the licensing exam as a CNA. On signing day, nursing graduates signed letters-of-intent alongside the Lakewood Community team to pledge their commitment as new team members. All that attended were given a swag bag to show their support of their new place of employment, much like signing day for athletes headed to play college sports.

“This partnership we developed with Henrico CTE is so beneficial to Lakewood and LifeSpire of Virginia because we get to be the start of these students’ journey in the clinical world,” said Crystal Hollemon, Staff Develop0ment Coordinator for Lakewood. “The 21 incoming CNAs applied and interviewed for these roles and expressed their passion for healthcare, helping others, caring about people and working in the nursing industry. Many have expressed their desire to further their career in roles such as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN) or beyond and we could not be more excited to further support them as they grow.”

“I think it’s a really good opportunity for us to get started because not everybody has the opportunity like we have right now,” said Damarys Castro Pineda, Nurse Aide Student at Hermitage ACE. “Seeing nurses around the hospitals and communities makes me want to be just like them because it’s something we can do to change lives and we want to do that.”

The event was livestreamed on Henrico CTE’s site and can be viewed here: Henrico CTE Livestream.
