Grand Openings Galore: Lakewood Welcomes Residents to Restaurants, Pool

As the decade comes to an end, new beginnings are underway at Lakewood. The community officially opened new dining venues and the wellness center in late December, both housed in the Clubhouse. The grand opening ceremonies are the latest updates in the ongoing expansion and renovation project.

On December 18, dining staff served the first meals from two of the newest venues to open. Residents had a chance to enjoy a champagne toast and appetizers in the Currents Lounge followed by dinner service in the Cascades Restaurant. The Cascades dining room serves daily lunch, dinner and brunch on Sundays.

The menu features modern American fare including soup, salads, a variety of sandwiches, seafood and steaks. The restaurant’s signature entrees are crab cakes and chickpea pasta primavera. Homemade desserts are available from Lakewood’s resident pastry chef with a selection of Hershey’s ice cream. Currents Lounge is open Monday through Saturday and serves wine, beer and an expanded menu that includes cocktails.

The finishing touches are in the works at The James—Lakewood’s upscale seafood and chophouse. Upon its opening in early 2020, diners will be able to enjoy jumbo sea scallops, steamed lobster tail and Wagyu rib-eye or filet mignon.

Residents can work up an appetite at the new aquatic center that opened December 19. The Jefferson Aquatic Center—honoring Nancy and Peyton Jefferson for their generous donation to the VBH Foundation—features a heated saltwater pool, spa and locker rooms. Fitness staff will hold multiple water aerobics classes throughout the week and there will be regularly scheduled lap swimming times designated. While additional classes may be offered in the future, ample time for playing in the pool will also be available.

“This is an exciting time here at Lakewood as we reach the end of the move-in period and welcome our 106 new residents. I am thrilled to see all of our community members enjoying the new spaces,” said Lakewood Executive Director Barrett Way. “We hope to finalize the lake and water feature next month, and in early January we will begin renovating the existing buildings in the community to carry the Clubhouse finishes throughout the campus.”
