Alzheimer’s Association to Host Virtual Sessions for Lakewood Community

Lakewood’s team is pleased to announce it is teaming up with the Greater Richmond Alzheimer’s Association to spread awareness about dementia. The organization is hosting a series of virtual webinars over the next three months.

The first webinar, “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” will be held on Wednesday, February 17, from 6 – 7 p.m. Participants will learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between the disease and dementia, risk factors, current research and treatments. Registration is available online.

“Effective Communication Strategies,” the second webinar in the series, will be held on Wednesday, March 17, from 6 – 7 p.m. Those who join will explore how communication changes when someone is living with Alzheimer’s, learn how to interpret verbal and nonverbal communication and identify strategies to connect. Participants may register online.

The third and final webinar, “Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior,” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, from 6 – 7 p.m. Participants will learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common triggers and learn strategies to help manage some of the most common behavioral challenges related to Alzheimer’s. Registration is available online.

All three of the sessions are free and open to the public. Registration is required, so please use the above links to participate. Questions may be directed to Lakewood’s Health Services Program Coordinator Christy Kyrus at [email protected].
