September 13: COVID-19 Update at Lakewood

Dear Lakewood Family,

The Lakewood leadership team learned Monday, September 13, 2021, that a healthcare resident on the second floor tested positive for COVID-19.

VDH is aware of this case, and the Lakewood team is following all guidance and recommendations for the health and well-being of our residents and team members. Contact tracing is underway. Anyone affected will be contacted personally, and appropriate steps will be taken.

This case was found through testing due to the county positivity rate. Visitation on the entire second floor, all hallways, is now suspended, as well as communal dining, activities and beauty salon appointments will not take place. The third floor of healthcare is also closed to visitation and following the same restrictions as the second floor.

In accordance with VDH guidance, outbreak testing is continuing for the third floor and starting for the second floor; if all test results are negative for at least two consecutive weeks, communal dining and visitation can resume.

Our community’s priority continues to be the safety and well-being of residents and team members. Please remember that being fully vaccinated does not 100% protect an individual from contracting COVID or one of the variants. Both CDC and VDH have noted, “No vaccine works 100% of the time. Some people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will get infected. Infections in fully vaccinated people are sometimes called vaccine breakthrough cases. In most cases, these people do not have any symptoms or have only mild symptoms. Their infections might also be shorter in duration.” https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/covid-19-faq/vaccination/ & https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/effectiveness.html
