Re-opening Guidelines for Assisted Living, Memory Support

Lakewood Independent Living Community’s Reopening Guidelines

Based on the resident vaccination rate and period of consistently having no
positive COVID-19 cases within assisted living, we have determined that it is
appropriate to re-visit certain reopening guidelines.

The following guidelines are effective Wednesday, February 24, 2021.

Assisted Living Visitor Guidelines:

  • Residents are limited to one scheduled visit per week from a family member or a friend.
  • Visits may be scheduled via the Calendly app:
  • Health Services Building AL: https://calendly.com/hsb-1/indoorvisits
  • Rose building, floors 2 and 3: https://calendly.com/rosevisits/rose2and3visit
  • Visitation will be offered Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., excluding mealtimes.
  • Visitors must pass Lakewood’s current screening process. If a visitor does not pass, they will be turned away at the guardhouse.
  • Visitors shall comply with social distancing, hand hygiene and mask-wearing in the building and in resident rooms.
  • Families may assist residents as they move to the assisted living
  • neighborhoods for the first three days of move-in. After the third day, families will be able to visit once a week.
  • Guests with a scheduled visit can bring in packages for residents in assisted living. Those wishing to drop off a package to a resident in assisted living without a scheduled visit can leave them at the guardhouse, and the package will be delivered to the resident.

Memory Support Visitation:

  • Residents are limited to one scheduled visit per week from a family member or a friend.
  • Clean-room visits may be scheduled via the Calendly app: https://calendly.com/memorysupport/memorysupport
  • Visitation will be offered Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • Visitors must pass Lakewood’s current screening process. If a visitor does not pass, they will be turned away at the guardhouse.
  • Visitors shall comply with social distancing, hand hygiene and wear their own facemasks in the building and in our cleanroom.
  • Guests with a scheduled visit can bring in packages for residents in memory support. Those wishing to drop off a package to a resident in memory support without a scheduled visit can leave them at the guardhouse, and it will be delivered to the resident.

Purposeful Movement Within the Community:

  • Residents are highly discouraged from moving about the community, but are self-governing and may do so within Lakewood’s Main Street junction consisting of the Simms Center, library, Chesapeake Bank, Café and Beauty Shop.
  • Outdoor purposeful walking will be offered to residents as weather and climate permit twice a week. Lakewood’s assisted living activities team will accompany residents in groups of no more than three residents at a time.

Family Trips Out of the Community:

  • Trips out of the community for residents must be reviewed and accepted by Lakewood’s medical director while in consultation with families.
  • Upon return, residents may be required to isolate themselves in their rooms for 10 – 14 days, based on Virginia Department of Health (VDH) recommendations for long-term care communities for off-site outings into the general population, in order to mitigate the potential of spreading the COVID-19 virus.

Please note if your loved one is nearing end-of-life, exceptions will be made to the visitation policy outlined above. Please contact the administration to schedule a visit directly.

We have continued to offer communal dining, accompanied trips to and from the beauty shop, certain activities that follow strict infection prevention protocol, and allow residents access to mailboxes.
These current guidelines affecting both the assisted living and memory support neighborhoods will be revisited every 14 days. These topics are subject to change upon determination of new guidance from the state VDH, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, county positivity rate and positivity rate within Lakewood’s community. While we consider our residents’ health and wellbeing here at Lakewood, we also take into consideration the safety of the most vulnerable population as a whole.
