LifeSpire of Virginia announces expansion at Lakewood Retirement Community
For Immediate Release
RICHMOND, VA, March 27, 2025 — LifeSpire of Virginia has announced plans to expand Lakewood in Richmond’s west end with the addition of 28 new independent living residences reflecting growing demand for vibrant, maintenance-free senior living options.
Two new buildings are planned with this expansion. Each new building will include 14 private residences. The new residences will offer spacious floor plans, outdoor patios, private garages, and extra storage space. This expansion will bring Lakewood’s popular hybrid home building total to four, enhancing the community’s ability to meet the evolving needs of seniors seeking comfort, convenience and social connection. Hybrid homes combine the privacy of cottage living with the convenience of apartment living.
“Hybrid homes reflect LifeSpire’s commitment to creating spaces that facilitate independence and community,” said Peter Robinson, chief marketing officer for LifeSpire of Virginia. “This expansion allows us to welcome more older adults into the Lakewood lifestyle, where they can enjoy meaningful connections, wellness opportunities and beautiful surroundings as well as access to assisted living, memory support and short or long-term nursing care as needed.”
The expansion includes floor plans ranging from 1,140 to 2,600 square feet, shared golf carts for transportation around the community’s 128 acres, onsite storage, dedicated garage space and access to all the amenities at Lakewood.
The architecture for the project is being led by THW Design, a nationally recognized firm specializing in senior living environments. Construction is expected to begin once 70 percent of the 28 new residences are reserved and permits are received from Henrico County. Waitlist information sessions will begin in May.
