Lakewood Residents Enjoy Expanded Dining, Entertainment Options
Lakewood officially opened the doors to Café 1900—a dining venue for quick bites in the newly renovated Main Street area. The dining services team held a grand re-opening on August 17 following months of construction.
Residents said they are thrilled to have another option available for dining.
“The food is excellent! I always have leftovers,” said Tuckie Paxton. “We had a fantastic lunch, and it was nice being able to have comfortable outdoor seating to eat with friends and family.”
Jim Paxton raved about his Reuben sandwich while fellow resident Helen Stevens recommends the salad options.
“I can’t tell you how happy I am that Café 1900 is open again. I was so amazed by all the selections provided by Lakewood! I am very thankful to have it back; the Cascades Dining Room provides the view, but Café 1900 has the best food,” Stevens said.
The cafe also boasts three grab-and-go locations—one with staple items, ready to go meals to eat at home and another with ice cream for late-night cravings. The renovations included expanded cafe seating.
“The café is one of my favorite places here at Lakewood the food is always excellent and servers are always friendly and helpful. I love that it now offers bacon, ice cream and snacks,” resident Beth Wilson said.
The Cascades Dining Room is also gearing back up now that it is open. On August 14, the dining services team hosted a special low country broil followed by a beach bash in the auditorium after dinner.

“I made reservations for dinner and I invited a friend born and raised in Mathews Country, Va., whom I knew would love the seafood meal. He has grown up with available seafood, knows how it should be prepared and taste. He loved his meal, as did everyone at our table,” said resident Sally Wheat. “It was a busy night for this theme menu, but our server was friendly, professional, courteous and accommodating in fulfilling our additional requests.”
Cascades will host a 1950s themed dinner on August 22 featuring diner favorites followed by live entertainment in the auditorium.
