January 8: COVID-19 Update

On January 7, Lakewood’s management team learned that three additional healthcare residents tested positive for COVID-19. These positive cases were identified during state-mandated testing due to recent positive cases. At present, 14 total Lakewood healthcare residents are positive for the virus.

The three residents are quarantining in their rooms. Contact tracing is underway in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Anyone who may have been in close contact with these team members or the residents will be contacted directly. All team members continue to follow all recommendations from VDH to prevent the spread of the virus. As previous communications indicated, the representatives from VDH were onsite this week were complimentary of Lakewood’s policies and the practices in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Visitation to the healthcare center and the assisted living and memory support neighborhoods remain suspended at this time. Hospice team members or other private duty providers are also unable to visit the healthcare center.

Residents are urged to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended infection control guidance: properly wear a mask covering mouth and nose, keep a social distance of at least six feet both indoors and outdoors and practicing effective hand hygiene.

While the leadership team understands the recent positive cases in the community are troubling, please know that the health and safety of residents and team members are the top concern.
