January 6: COVID-19 Update

On January 5, Lakewood’s management team learned that three healthcare team members and one additional healthcare resident tested positive for COVID-19. These positive cases were identified during state-mandated baseline testing due to recent positive cases. At present, 11 total Lakewood residents are positive for the virus.

The three team members have been removed from the schedule and are quarantining at home until all Virginia Department of Health (VDH) return-to-work criteria are met. The resident is also quarantining currently.

On a separate note, Lakewood’s management team was made aware this morning that three additional healthcare team members tested positive while working at other jobs. One last worked at Lakewood on December 6, the second on December 22 and the other on December 27. These team members have been removed from the schedule and are quarantining at home pending completion of VDH return-to-work criteria.

Contact tracing is underway in partnership with VDH. Anyone who may have been in close contact with these team members or the resident will be contacted directly. All team members continue to follow all recommendations from VDH to prevent the spread of the virus.

Representatives from VDH were onsite at Lakewood yesterday to conduct a site visit. Those team members provided community-specific suggestions for virus control.

As a reminder, there is no access to the healthcare center for visitors, hospice team members or other private duty providers. Contact the management team with questions. Additionally, visitation to the assisted living and memory support neighborhoods is suspended at this time.

Residents are urged to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended infection control guidance: properly wear a mask covering mouth and nose, keep a social distance of at least six feet both indoors and outdoors and practicing effective hand hygiene.
