January 4: COVID-19 Update at Lakewood

On January 3 and 4, Lakewood’s management team learned that nine healthcare residents tested positive for COVID-19. These residents are quarantining in their rooms.

Healthcare residents who live in the neighborhoods where these positive cases have been identified are in isolation at this time. All healthcare residents will be tested tomorrow. Contact tracing is underway in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Anyone who may have been in close contact with these residents will be contacted directly. All team members continue to follow all recommendations from VDH to prevent the spread of the virus.

On a separate note, Lakewood’s management team was made aware this morning that a certified nursing assistant in the healthcare neighborhood tested positive. This team member has been removed from the schedule and is self-quarantining at home until VDH’s return-to-work criteria are met.

Representatives from VDH will be at Lakewood this week to conduct a site visit and to provide suggestions for virus control. There is no access to the healthcare center for visitors, hospice team members or other private duty providers. Contact the management team with questions.

Residents are urged to continue following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended infection control guidance: properly wear a mask covering mouth and nose, keep a social distance of at least six feet both indoors and outdoors and practicing effective hand hygiene.
