January 21: Vaccine Update

Lakewood’s leadership team is pleased to announce that the second COVID-19 vaccine dose will be administered to residents and team members on February 4 through our partnership with Walgreens. On that date, independent living, assisted living, memory support and healthcare residents, as well as Lakewood team members, will have the opportunity to receive either the first or second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents and team members are asked to return the consent form with a copy of an insurance card to the Lakewood clinic by January 27. This form can also be emailed to Myra Conway. Those who do not have insurance should submit a copy of a driver’s license or state-issued ID along with the last four digits of the social security number. The Lakewood team must submit a total number of first or second dose vaccinations needed for February 4.

The vaccination team from Walgreens will come to residents’ rooms for those who live in healthcare, assisted living and memory support for vaccination. This is so those residents do not have to leave their designated areas. Residents who are currently positive will be unable to receive the vaccine on the February 4 clinic date. Direct caregiving team members, who work in the higher levels of care areas, will also be able to receive the vaccine in their designated work areas.

Just as the vaccination clinic on January 14, the vaccination team from Walgreens will be set up in the Simms Center on February 4 for the vaccination of independent living residents and team members who do not work in the higher levels of care. The Resident Council has set up a volunteer team to help with this clinic. This team will be contacting
independent living residents who have submitted their consent forms to the Lakewood clinic. Resident volunteers will contact independent living residents to give them appointment times. Volunteers will be available to remind and assist residents during this process.

Independent living residents and team members on vaccination day, please remember:

  • Wear layers and/or a short-sleeved shirt.
  • Bring your Medicare card or insurance card or a valid driver’s license if available.
  • Bring your vaccination record card received at the first vaccine.
  • Independent living residents and team members, if you do not have a record card, please contact the front desk and to let us know.
  • Always wear a mask.
  • Remember to socially distance.
  • Come at designated vaccine appointment times.
  • Please pay attention to all signs in and around the Simms Center, some areas will be set up differently from last vaccination clinic.

Those in the Simms Center will be moved to an observation area immediately outside the Simms Center after receiving the vaccine. This is where they will be observed for 15 minutes after the vaccination for side effects. Once the observation time is complete, they will be able to leave the observation area.

Please remember after vaccination to keep wearing a mask and social distance. Just because you received the vaccine does not mean you cannot spread the virus to others.

Walgreens representatives also confirmed that the third COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be held on February 25. At this clinic, residents and team
members will receive the second dose of the vaccine for those who received the first dose at the February 4 clinic. Residents or team members who are currently positive will be unable to receive the vaccine.
