January 15: COVID-19 Update

Lakewood’s leadership team learned on January 13 that an independent living resident tested positive for COVID-19. The resident received a positive result during routine testing at an offsite medical appointment. The resident is quarantining at home.

Additionally, seven healthcare residents tested positive during this week’s twice-weekly state-mandated baseline testing. All these residents are asymptomatic and are quarantining in their rooms.

Contact tracing is underway. Anyone who is identified as having close contact with these positive residents will be contacted directly. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) has been notified of the positive case. The Lakewood team continues to follow all VDH recommendations to prevent the spread of the virus.

On a separate note, the community’s first COVID-19 vaccine clinic has now been completed. Nearly 700 vaccine doses were administered to residents and team members. Based on recommendations from representatives with our partner pharmacy, Walgreens, those who were identified in contact tracing related to these new positive cases were still be able to receive the vaccine.

Despite receiving the vaccine, all residents and team members should continue to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth, socially distance and practice proper hand hygiene.
