VDH Offers Positive Feedback on Lakewood Mitigation Efforts

Due to the positive cases of COVID-19 at Lakewood, representatives from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) visited the community on April 15. The VDH team reviewed infection control procedures in place to ensure everything possible is being done to keep residents, team members and their families safe and healthy. The feedback Lakewood’s management team received was positive.

Specifically, the VDH team reported the following:

  • Personal protective equipment was being used appropriately, to include the use of gowns, gloves, N95 respirators and face shields.
  • Infection control procedures are being carried out appropriately in both the health care and assisted living areas.
  • The current process of monitoring and surveillance of team members and residents supports VDH recommendations.
  • Environmental cleaning processes are adequate.
  • Current actions regarding social distancing and outdoor time for residents support VDH recommendations.
  • The current process for testing supports VDH recommendations.

“We are pleased the mitigation efforts we have in place are in accordance with the recommendations set forth by our state officials. Of course, we would like to see no positive test results come back, but in no way do they represent a failure by the team at Lakewood. We are reassured by the knowledge that not only are we doing everything we can to protect our residents and team members, but our early and swift efforts are having a positive impact on keeping the virus at bay. We appreciate the feedback and partnership from our colleagues at VDH. By sharing best practices, we can combat COVID.”
